President
Patricia Martinez
President
Patricia Martinez has been a part of Catholic Life Group since it first started on April 1st 2005.
She has served in various roles before being selected to become the third President of CLG. She
is a lay member of the Regnum Christi movement and also has a strong Carmelite devotion. She is
involved in many pro-life groups and efforts in the Sacramento region. Pati values personal contact
and tries to make everyone feel welcome.
The duties of the President include:
Leading group prayers.
Making final decisions on strategic issues for CLG.
Maintaining close contact with our spiritual advisor(s).
Resolving disagreements between members.
Vice President
Andy Opsahl
Vice President
Andy Opsahl has been a CLG member for several years now, and has accepted the role of Vice
President. Andy is a member of Sacred Heart parish in Sacramento. He is an avid fan of
classical music, and a renouned journalist in the local technology sector.
The duties of the Vice President include:
Supporting the other officers in their various responsibilities.
Ensuring all members have the resources they need to fulfill their duties.
Time management and scheduling of group activities.
Logistical coordination for group activities.
Treasurer
John Sheldon
Treasurer
John R. Sheldon has been attending CLG since June 2006 and Treasurer
starting in 2007. John is also the unofficial "Minister of Food, Gardening,
and Restaurants." John has attended the morning mass at Newman Center for
the past 10 plus years and participates as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
As John puts it:
"CLG provides us with the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with
God. My faith journey, while not necessarily easier, is on a more sound
footing thanks to the people and discussions at CLG. I am especially thankful
that it helped me when I was in a very vulnerable stage of my life."
The duties of the Treasurer include:
Maintain accounts / records of all funds, income, and expenditures.
Take up weekly collections.
Oversee fundraising activities.
Provide assistance in procuring items / services.
Spiritual Director
Father Daniel Ray
Spiritual Director
Father Daniel Ray is one of the Legionaries of Christ priests stationed at the Shrine.
He agreed to take over spiritual direction for the group at the request of Father Octavio.
Father Ray is also the chaplain for the University of Sacramento, the Catholic university operated
by the Legionaries of Christ. We are very glad to have Father Ray with us and are confident that
Father Octavio's trust in him is well placed and that he will be a source of great spiritual inspiration
for us.
The duties of the Spiritual Director include:
Providing for the Sacramental needs of the group, including monthly mass.
Helping the group to develop its structure and format.
Providing well researched answers to the most difficult faith questions.
Providing spiritual direction to individuals.
Formation Officer
Amy Rutschow
Formation Officer
Amy Rutschow has been a member of CLG for about one
year. She attends Mass here in Sacramento at the
Catholic Church of St. Stephen the First Martyr. Her
faith has developed in recent years through the
direction and education from priests of the Priestly
Fraternity of Saint Peter. During the week, she is a
budget consultant for the California State Assembly.
The duties of the Formation Officer include:
Keeping track of the schedule of facilitations.
Encouraging group members to volunteer to facilitate a meeting.
Assisting facilitators to prepare their discussions.
Oversee other formation activities, such as prayer and music.

Organizing community service and missionary activities.
Building relationships with other groups working to serve others.
Coordinating joint apostolic activities with other groups.
Informing the group of upcoming service opportunities.

Producing promotional material.
Overseeing the activities of the Technology and Integration officers.
Working with other officers to promote events.
Maintaining a positive presence for the group in the Church community.
Fund Raising Officer
Andrea Fernandez
Fund Raising Officer
Andrea Fernandez has been in the group almost since its founding. Though she has been
away for a while due to her busy schedule as a pre-med student, her presence is felt strongly whenever she is
with us. Her profound love for God inspires all of us to greater levels of devotion and gives us a glimpse
at the incredible depth of God's love for us.
The duties of the Fund Raising Officer include:
Planning fund raising activities for the group as a whole and specific CLG activities such as Workd Youth Day.
Helping to organize the annual Cinco de Mayo fundraising dinner.
Helping to organize and execute planned fundraising activities.
Fund Raising Officer
Gabriel Voehl
Fund Raising Officer
Gabriel Voehl has been with CL for over a year. He has aided greatly in the spiritual formation
in the group and has served as our main translator for non-English speaking members. Gabe is a
teacher of Latin and Greek at the Apostolic School in Colfax. His great knowlege and firm witness
to the faith have helped the group to stay grounded in solid Catholic principles.
